About Me

My name is Richard Coffey-Glover, and I am a passionate teacher, composer and performer of music.

I have twenty years experience as a music educator, from teaching in schools and conservatoires, community workshops, through to University doctoral level. I have taught students to be music-makers of all types – including supporting them in their own teaching. I have taught piano, composition and music theory privately to a wide range of learners, from young students to still-young-at-heart older students.

I have studied classical and popular music alongside music technology, which has provided me with great insight and experience into the ways in which different areas of music are played in the world today. I have a vast range of music-making experience with a range of styles:

  • I have played in concert recitals and classical ensembles, to function bands, Jazz cafes and rock gigs
  • I have composed for amateur ensembles through to BBC orchestras and world-class soloists, music for screen and games – even music for toys!

My professional experience has always infused my teaching approach: pianists, composers – and musicians can make the same kinds of mistakes, whatever their age or level! But many of the top musicians I have worked with all demonstrate similar qualities: they listen when playing, they practice, and they are always ready to learn more. I pour all of this knowledge into my teaching, whether a students is just starting out with the first steps on piano, or is a fluent musician or composer and wants to develop to the next level.
